The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the nation’s largest youth-led, partisan political organization. As the official youth arm of the Democratic Party since 1932, YDA builds strong local chapters to engage young people under the age of 36 in partisan politics, build a youth voting bloc for Democrats, and develop a new generation of progressive leaders. YDA has over 2,000 local chapters in all 50 states. Our 150,000+ members – including middle school, high school and college students as well as young workers, young professionals and young families – reflects the broad diversity of our nation and the Democratic Party.
YDA works with national, state, and local leaders across the country on peer-to-peer young voter mobilization campaigns, issue advocacy, leadership and skills trainings, and other activities to grow sustainable chapters and build the national infrastructure of YDA
The New Media and Communications Intern will be responsible for the following:
- Formulate strategies for aggressive new media and communications push to local chapters and members
- Manage supporter and chapter information through DEMopolis, YDA’s online member management system.
- Research, track, and collect chapter stories, activities, and events and develop strategies to publicize them on the YDA websites and blogs
- Draft external communications including, but not limited to, letters to the editor, press releases, and national email blasts
- Track legislative agenda of the Obama/Biden Administration and the Democratic Leader’s Office for the purpose of scheduling National Action Alerts
- Produce and edit videos for YDA national and regional conferences, and for the YDA websites and blog
- Act as a liaison to the national Communications and Outreach Committee at all National Committee Meetings and conferences
Qualifications:
- Familiar with HTML web-editing platforms such as SSQL, Joomla, and/or Text Pattern
- Strong written and communication skills
- Ability to work individually and with a team
- Flexible working hours
- Commitment to the principles of YDA, the Democratic Party, and progressive politics
- Basic graphic design skills (familiarity to Adobe softwares - InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, also a plus)
- Experience managing a database
- Basic web research experience
