Reflections on Racial Profiling & Bias and the Need To Take Action

After Mike Brown was shot, I wrote an op-ed for the Huffington Post on the continued problem of racial profiling or bias in law enforcement that has sometimes ended in tragedy. Since this op-ed was posted in August, a 22 year old black named John Crawford in Ohio was shot in a store for wielding what was mistaken for a real gun, but was in fact a pellet gun. And just this past week, a 12 year old black youth Tamir Rice was shot playing in the park with his BB gun, that law enforcement also mistook for a real gun.

Take Action in October for Domestic Violence Awareness

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Organizations like YWCA USA, National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) and National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) work on this issue year round but use October to raise awareness around family violence.

With recent video of an NFL Player punching his wife, it's heightened awareness of domestic violence which many think is rare but it’s not.
