]]> Comment on YDA Announces New Executive Director, Prepares for 2012 Election by Owen Stephens http://www.yda.org/yda-announces-hiring-of-new-executive-director/#comment-6069 Owen Stephens Thu, 26 Jan 2012 21:14:00 +0000 http://www.yda.org/?p=1136#comment-6069 Greetings and congratulations to Emily!  I am a former member of the YDA National Committee from 2008-2010.  I have a serious piece of advice for you!  Money will be made available for you and the organization this year because it is an election year.  There will be opportunities to quickly grow and expand, but the mistake is to believe that it is sustainable.  Funders give young dems money in election years... and then they stop.    This poses a huge challenge to long term expansion and institutional growth and security.  Post-2008 was an extreme lesson of this, post-2004 was to a lesser extent.  Keep this in mind as the year progresses.  For every opportunity to acquire funding, talk to the funder about long term and post-election (so you have realistic expectations of them), and consider what, if any share, should be put in a reserve fund.  Plan ahead, because 2013 will not be as rosy as 2012 as the cycle has proven repeatedly.  Gobama! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you did for us. Imagine a puzzle- each soldier is one of those pieces. Alone, they might not seem like much, but you can't see the picture without all of them working together. Thank you for protecting us, without your service, more lives could have been lost. Welcome Home, and good luck. It's hard to get used to home again, but its well worth it.
