In order to welcome the next generation of Democratic leaders to Washington, YDA will be posting a series of profiles on our rising federal stars. Today, we are proud to introduce to you, Joe Kennedy, Congressman-elect for Massachusetts.
In a decisive victory over Republican opponent Sean Bielat, Democrat Joseph P. Kennedy III becomes Masschusetts’ fourth district Congressional representative. Prior to Kennedy’s election, the seat was formerly held by Representative Barney Frank.
Born and raised in Boston, Joe grew up in the heart of Massachusetts before heading west to college at Stanford University. At Stanford, Kennedy studied Management Science and Engineering and was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team. He later went on to attend Harvard Law School, where he honed his interest in public service representing pro-bono cases for the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. Kennedy also has experience as a Peace Corps member. In the Dominican Republic, he worked alongside locals on projects of economic development and environmental sustainability designed to increase domestic revenues in the face of a competitive outside tourism industry.
After graduating from law school, Kennedy returned home to begin his career as a prosecutor. Before launching his Congressional campaign, Joe served as an assistant district attorney for Middlesex County.At only 32, Joe already has a record of leadership and achievement under his belt. He brings energy and fresh ideas to the 113th Congress, and stands as an unparalleled servant to the people of the fourth district. Kennedy’s vision includes a commitment to a implementing a fair tax code, to getting Americans back to work, to providing affordable education opportunities for all, and to seeing small businesses flourish again. With a core set of progressive American values, Joe believes in social policies that move this country forward, while honoring the dedicated men and women whose military service has and continues to keep us safe.
