Statement from President Gallaway on Bush's Iraq Veto:
WASHINGTON, DC - Yesterday, President Bush vetoed the bipartisan Iraq supplemental bill, instead choosing to keep our troops dangerously positioned in an open-ended conflict that has escalated into civil war in Iraq. Four years ago, the President landed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, and under a banner stating "Mission Accomplished," announced that "major combat operations in Iraq have ended." On that day, if the President meant that he would sacrifice the lives of thousands of young Americans for what may turn out to be the largest foreign policy mistake in United States history, then Mr. President: Mission Accomplished.
The President is tragically out of touch with what Americans want and expect. President Bush disregarded the advice of military experts, and ignored the will of the American people to bring this war to an end."
Young Americans are fighting this war, and young people across the nation are overwhelmingly opposed to the promulgation of this war borne from the Bush Administration's botched foreign policy.
The President continues to jeopardize the lives of young Americans, when he needs to work with Congress to bring our brave sons and daughters back. Americans just want you to bring them home, Mr. President.
