Young Democrats of America Congratulate Senator Joe Biden
Washington, DC – The Young Democrats of America congratulate Senator Joseph Biden on being chosen by Senator Obama as the Vice-Presidential running mate.
“After being elected to the U.S. Senate at age 29, Senator Biden became a respected bi-partisan leader on key foreign policy issues and a fighter for the middle class,” said David Hardt, President of the Young Democrats of America. “His frank style and authenticity further demonstrate that an Obama-Biden ticket will end politics as usual and get our country back on track.”
“Young people know Democrats will bring about the change we crave and young voters will be the margin of victory for Democrats up and down the ticket in November,” said Alexandra Acker, Executive Director of YDA. “YDA’s Young Voter Revolution is building a generation of young, Democratic voters.”
In polls of young voters, Barack Obama consistently beats John McCain by 27 points, 60-33 percent. Over six million young people participated in our primary contests, an increase of 103% from 2004, with young voters favoring Democrats 2:1. The 2004 elections marked the largest increase in young voter turnout since 1972.
The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the largest youth-led, national, partisan political organization, with over 2,000 chapters in all 50 states. Our members include middle school, high school and college students as well as young workers, young professionals and young families. YDA’s Young Voter Revolution campaigns use a tested field model that identifies young voters, engages them in peer-to-peer communication and education, and then uses traditional and innovative methods to turn out the vote.
