YDA Congratulates Senator Al Franken on his Election Victory

Washington, DC (July 1, 2009) After eight long months of waiting, one canvass, a recount, and two court battles, Amy Klobuchar will finally have someone to split her work load with. The Minnesota Supreme Court, in a unanimous, 5-0 decision, ruled that the Coleman team had failed to prove that the trial courts findings of fact are clearly erroneous or that the court committed an error of law or abused its discretion.

On Wednesday, both Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie signed an official election certificate, paving the way for Franken to claim his seat. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said Franken could be seated as soon as Monday.

YDA, the official youth arm of the Democratic Party, and the largest youth led, partisan organization, promptly extended congratulations to the Senate's new and most junior member. With the addition of Franken to the already burgeoning Democratic Majority in both the House and Senate, YDA looks forward to working with the Senator from Minnesota in the effort to enact into law, the progressive platform upon which the party stands.
