As Iraq War Ends, YDA Pauses to Thank Our Troops

In January 2009, President Obama took office with 142,000 troops on the ground in Iraq.  Today, the last of our service members are coming home and all U.S. military bases within the country are closing.  After nine years, a war that profoundly affected our generation is over.

Throughout the past decade, more than a million Americans have served in Iraq.  Nearly 4,500 made the ultimate sacrifice and tens of thousands more were wounded.  As this war comes to a close, we pay tribute to all of these individuals who have given so much for our country.

YDA is firmly committed to ensuring that all those who served continue to receive the care and benefits they have earned for themselves and their families.  As thousands of Americans return home, it’s imperative that we provide quality health-care, ensure access to education and training to re-enter the civilian work force, and encourage companies to hire our troops and put them back to work.  We will fight for these priorities in the coming months and years.

President Obama has kept his word and brought the war in Iraq to a responsible end; the Iraqi people now have full responsibility for the security of their nation.  All the while, the President has restored our position of leadership in the global community and has achieved major milestones in the war on terror including the elimination of Osama bin Laden.  Of course, none of this would be possible without the brave men and women serving in the military.

It’s no secret that many of us first became involved in politics in 2008 because of the Iraq War.  Today we can stand proud of our troops and our president as this conflict comes to a close.

We ask that you leave a comment on this post below to show your thanks for our troops and their service in this war. Our DISQUS comment system will allow you to sign in with your username and password for Facebook, Twitter, or other popular social networking sites to leave your comments.

Sincerely,

Rod Snyder

I salute each and every one of you for your sacrifices. I know it was not an easy road, but each of you willingly stood the watch, so that our fellow Americans could sleep easy at night. You now stand relieved, go home and enjoy the holidays with your family. It is our turn to make sure you sleep easy at night.

    Very Respectfully,
    CTM2 Anthony Blevins, USN

Not enough words exist to accurately express my gratitude and the gratitude of this Nation for the service and sacrifice made by our brave military men and women. These are the individuals who truly embody what it means to be an American. This would not be the Land of The Free if it were not also the Home of The Brave such as yourselves. With everything inside of me, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to all members of the United States Military for your continued service and never-ending bravery. You make your Country proud. God Bless.

“Thank you” seems too insufficient to express my gratitude to you all. Welcome home! Best to you and yours!

I lost my young husband in Viet Nam while I was pregnant with our first child, so I understand the sacrafices that our Troops have had to make to protect us back home. For many of you, this is the first time leaving home. Thank you does not begin to convey my appreciation for all of your hard work in keeping this Country free. WELCOME HOME & GOD BLESS all of you!

Today is quite a significant day not only for our generation, but for America’s history. I’d like to thank our amazing troops, and every single family member who backed them up.

My father was in Iraq for two tours during the course of this war, so I understand the huge sacrifice it is to serve our country, for both the soldier and their family. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you did for us. Imagine a puzzle- each soldier is one of those pieces. Alone, they might not seem like much, but you can’t see the picture without all of them working together. Thank you for protecting us, without your service, more lives could have been lost. Welcome Home, and good luck. It’s hard to get used to home again, but its well worth it. God Bless.
