On Saturday, July 28th, The Sangamon County Young Democrats held their First Annual Block Party. The family friendly event was held on the grounds of IBEW Local 193 in Springfield, Illinois. Over 100 local Democrats and their families were in attendance. Many federal, state and local elected Democrats and candidates were in attendance to show their support for the Sangamon County Young Democrats.
The grounds were covered with campaign signs and banners for all of the local candidates. Many of those candidates pitched in to help by serving food, selling raffle tickets to a St. Louis Cardinals game and making sno-cones and cotton candy for the children that were there. The Sangamon County Young Democrats members were entertained throughout the event with music DJed by a member of the Sangamon County Young Democrats, who is also a Union member.
This event would not have been possible without the support of local Labor Unions and local elected Democrats. The Block Party, which was free to attend, was a great way to show the solidarity of the Democratic Party in Sangamon County.

The Young Democrats of Illinois leadership is very proud of the work being done in our state's capital by Dan and the SCYD. Not only are they one of our newest charters, but they are working tirelessly in a traditionally red county. By working with our allies in the labor community they demonstrate how valued that relationship is to the Young Democrats across our state and country. We look forward to many years of great activities from our Sangamon YDs.
